Maybe not so smart after all.
As someone who could/should “self-identify” as an intellectual (I don’t much care for sports and mundane gossip), I’ve always held the beliefs and sincerity of my intellectual compatriots in suspicion. Having lived in urbane and rural settings I can conclude that simpler people often have common sense insights that override the snooty appraisals of the erudite class. Farmers and mechanics often “get it right,” while intellectuals’ track records are more often than not, abysmal. Look at a high body count and you’re likily to see an intellectual behind the “plan.”
It’s no wonder to me that so many from the “educated class” often ally themselves with the latest authoritarian fad whether that be Nazism, fascism, or communism (“birds of a feather”).
This is an insightful article on the gullibility and nonsense from smart-land.
